    CALGARY- The first hockey instalment of the Crowchild Classic of the 2018/2019 took place at the Flames Community Arenas Friday night as Mount Royal was looking to build off their sweep of the Manitoba Bisons coming off the bye week, but had their momentum snapped at the hands of their crosstown rival Calgary Dinos 4-1.

  • Cougars fall in OT to Alberta

    CALGARY - The Mount Royal Cougars and University of Alberta Golden Bears’ men's hockey teams clashed on Friday at the Flames Community Arena. The Cougars were coming off a loss, while, the Golden Bears’ last game resulted in a win. Bert Gilling, the head coach of the Cougars, said before the game that they were “excited to be playing the defending national champions.” He continued to say that it’s “always exciting to play against Alberta, and it’s also a great measuring stick for us to play against their team.” After a slow start, the game picked up after Brad Kennedy scored the first goal of the game for the Cougars. Alberta swiftly responded and the Golden Bears lead going into the third period. The Cougars caught up only to be sent into overtime, where the Golden Bears took the win at 4-3.

    VANCOUVER – Austin Vetterl’s red hot stick combined with another solid performance in net by Rylan Toth saw the UBC Thunderbirds earn a weekend sweep over the visiting Mount Royal Cougars with a 2-1 win Saturday afternoon at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre.

    VANCOUVER – A quick start and a frenzied finish led to a third straight win for the UBC Thunderbirds to start the 2018-19 Canada West season as they dispatched the visiting Mount Royal Cougars 3-1 in the ‘Birds’ home opener Friday night in front of more than 1,000 fans at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre.
